Things to Remember When Renewing Your License

General Information

Your renewal packet will be mailed to you approximately four (4) weeks before the expiration date of your certificate of registration. If you do not receive it three (3) weeks before this date, please contact the board's office immediately. Your renewal date is on your certificate of registration (wallet card).

All continuing education courses are subject to change. It is recommended that you contact the provider in advance to verify whether a course has been changed or canceled.

   


 

Approved Sources of Continuing Education

The board will only accept continuing education credits from the following:

Continuing education approved by the Ohio Board of Executives of Long-term Services & Supports (BELTSS). 

Continuing education approved through the National Association of Boards of Examiners of Long-Term Care Administrators (NAB).

If you are licensed in Ohio and officially reside in another state or practice in that state, you may use that state’s board-approved continuing education for your Ohio license renewal.  NOTE: The CEU's must still meet Ohio's CEU requirements, ie. six (6) hours of limited, ten (10) hours of ss/dl/webinar.

If you hold an Ohio nursing home administrator license and officially reside in another state, you may use that state’s board-approved continuing education for your Ohio license renewal.

  •   The board will accept only ten (10) hours of self study programs.  This includes any program conducted outside of a traditional classroom setting, including distance learning and webinars. 

4 Types of BELTSS CEU Providers

The board recognizes four (4) types of continuing education providers: Limited, Certified, Preferred & Self Study. 

You may only submit six (6) hours of continuing education from a " Limited" provider. There are no restrictions on the number of hours you may submit from a " Certified" or " Preferred" provider, except that only ten (10) hours of SS/dl/webinar hours are accepted, regardless of provider status.

Limited Providers are identified by the BELTSS approval numbers with the letter “L” in the middle (e.g. 000-L-00).

Certified Providers are identified by the BELTSS approval numbers with the letter “C” in the middle (000-C-00).

Preferred Providers are identified by the BELTSS approval numbers with the letter “P” in the middle (e.g. ABCD1-P-00).

Self Study is defined by the BELTSS approval numbers starting with the letters "SS" (e.g. SS-00-00)

Self Study provided by a Limited Provider are defined by the BELTSS approval numbers starting with the letters "SSL" (e.g. SSL-00-00)

NOTE:  NAB approved courses are identified with "in" or "dl"

The board will also accept continuing education courses approved by the National Association of Boards of Examiners of Long-Term Care Administrators (NAB). There are no restrictions on the number of hours you may submit from NAB-approved courses (excluding self study/webinar/dl).

in = in class; the continuing education course occurs in a classroom setting. There is no limit to number of hours accepted.

dl = distance learning; the continuing education course is the same as webinar, self study, or on-line type courses. Only ten (10) hours of this type of units are accepted

Late Renewals

Failure to renew the certificate of registration prior to the date of expiration invokes the penalty of five (5) additional hours of continuing education per calendar quarter, up to a maximum of twenty (20) penalty hours.

Practice of nursing home administration by an administrator whose license has not been renewed is in violation of sections 4751.02 and 4751.09 of the Revised Code and subjects the licensee to proceedings before the board.


Change of Employment / Change of Address Form

Under Ohio law, all administrators must notify the board within ten (10) days of any changes in their employment status or residential mailing address. To report such changes, please complete the "Change of Employment / Address Form" form and mail or fax it to the board's office.

PLEASE NOTE A CHANGE IN THE FORM TO INDICATE THE ODH FACILITY NUMBER.  To obtain the number please check with your Business Office or consult your faciltiy information document from your most recent survey.
